Mahabharata : Karmasathi - Ganga & Shantanu
In short, all was going well for him but does everything ever keep going "well" for anyone...? So, here is the twist...
One day, the celestial MotherGoddess Ganga paid a visit to Indra's Sabha(Grand Hall). Incidentally, a gentle breeze passed by exposing her cleavage. While Indra and other Gods present there looked down in respect to the Mother Goddess, Mahabhisha unashamedly kept staring at her. This made Indra terribly angry. He vented out his anger and cursed him to return to Earth and lead a mortal life. Then he turned towards Ganga and glared at her for she too had enjoyed Mahabhisha's unabashed stare. He spoke with a polite but authoritative tone and ordered her too never return to Swarga Loka before breaking Mahabhisha's heart.
As she was making her way out of Indra's abode, she was encountered by the Eight Vasus, the divine personifications of the Eight Directions. They had just received news of the events that had taken place at Indra's Hall. As soon as they heard about it, they rushed to meet Ganga before she again became invisible in the huge water bodies of the Sapta Sindhu. They explained to her their terrible condition and the curse they had incurred from Maharishi Vashishtha under the crime of trying to steal his cow. They had been cursed to live a mortal life on Earth and experience all the troubles of the mortals. Ganga, the ever caring MotherGoddess listened to their state pitifully and promised them that she would bear them as her children on Earth and try and keep their mortal life as miniature as possible.
This would explain the ghastly behavior of the 'MotherGodess' Ganga towards her very own progeny. It tells us about a relationship that was indeed finalized in heaven, but not as each other's better-half or karmasathi but simply to fulfill one's karmic debt with a single objective of returning to the soul's original status of pleasure. However, this behavior and actions of this couple not only had a very important cause but also had an equally terrifying result.
See you all on another new day with a new engaging topic..till then, farewell.
