Mahabharata : The Beginning of The End
Hi All,
It's a new day and let's start with something new. Let us traverse this magnificent tale of Mahabharata which comprises a large part of Indian Mythology together, standing side by side, viewing it from each perspective we see.
After serving his nation for almost 30 years, Pratipa renounced the world and retired to the forests. After Pratipa, the crown should have passed on to Devapi, but due to some skin illness, the Throne was denied to Devapi and instead passed on to Shantanu. Upon being denied the throne, Devapi denied living under the shadow of Shantanu and left Hastinapura.
Shantanu after being crowned King, often visited his father in the forests to pay his respects. Once, when he visited his father, Praipa told Shantanu that a Maiden by the name Ganga would approach him one day for marriage and he must not deny it for Pratipa had blessed her to be married to Shantanu. And soon, Shantanu saw Ganga gliding over a dolphin and as told by his father, she approached Shantanu for marriage which he accepted in keeping with his word to Pratipa.
However, before getting married, Ganga put forth a condition. She said that after marriage, Shantanu shall not question any of her actions. Not quite understanding the seriousness of these words, he readily agreed. Their union was celebrated with great pomp and show. Soon after 1 year, their first child was born, however, there was not much to celebrate about because as soon as the child slipped out of his mother's womb, he was drowned by Ganga. But in keeping with his promise to Ganga, he did not question her action. She repeated this course of action for her second-born but again Shantanu maintained his silence. Ganga kept doing so 7 times but for the eighth time, Shantanu could no longer keep his calm. He shouted at her asking her to let at least his 8th child to live a full life.
Ganga stopped and looked up at a Shantanu with a smile. She reminded Shantanu of his oath which he had broken, thus it was her time to leave him.
This union of Shantanu and Ganga was it a mere coincidence, a promise one had made to his father, or do its roots go deeper, deep enough to one's past life karma. Was all of this meant to happen, a series of events one had unintentionally planned by his deeds...
...to be followed...till then, enjoy reading...
